Popular Sixties Singer S. Jibeng Dies

JOHOR BAHARU, Feb 7 (Bernama) – Well-known singer from the Sixties era, S. Jibeng whose real name was Jaafar Sidiq, died at 7am, Tuesday in the Sultanah Aminah Hospital (HSA) after suffering a bout of breathing difficulty. He was 64.

His wife Maznah Sidek, 48, said Jaafar complained of difficulty in breathing while returning here from Seremban yesterday afternoon after a performance.

She said he sought treatment at a clinic in Simpang Renggam before admitting himself to Batu Pahat Hospital from where he was transferred to HSA.

His condition worsened and he was placed in the intensive care unit in the hospital about 11pm, she said at their house here.

Maznah and their five children — two sons and three daughters aged from 19 to 28 — were at his bedside when he died.

He also left seven grandchildren.

Jaafar, who was best known for his hit songs “Musafir Di Aidil Fitri” and “Inai di Jari”, was said to have suffered from a variety of ailments such as heart disease, diabetes and kidney problem.

His friends from the entertainment industry who included A. Rahman Onn and veteran artistes from Singapore were at the house to pay their last respects before the funeral this afternoon.
